Residency Programs in Internal Medicine
Practice Opportunities
The Department of Medicine continues to work with its residents beyond their period of training. Through a mentorship committee, each resident will be assigned a faculty member to assist in appropriate career planning. A large majority of our residents successfully compete for the most prestigious fellowship positions. For the residents choosing to remain in primary care, we make special efforts to find general medicine fellowships for those wishing to gain further expertise or pursue careers in academic medicine. In addition, The Mount Sinai Medical Center has a large network of affiliated private practice sites, as well as hospital- and community-based primary care opportunities. We attempt to find appropriate positions that mix teaching and patient care for each of our graduates so that there is continuity between training and practice. With the changing health care market, we feel that our approach to this responsibility is a very important part of our program.
