Residency Programs in Internal MedicineMulticultural AffairsVisiting Elective for Candidates Underrepresented in MedicineThe Visiting Electives Program is a 4-week elective program designed to increase the diversity of house staff and ultimately, faculty at The Mount Sinai Medical Center and its affiliate institutions. The program subsidizes and reimburses costs for housing and round trip travel after completion of the elective. During the 4-week elective, visiting students have access to resources at their elective site as well as the Center for Multicultural and Community Affairs. Visiting students will have opportunities to meet with the residency program directors, faculty advisors, residents and interns. Elective Requirements3rd and 4th year medical students from minority groups underrepresented in medicine who are in good academic standing from accredited medical schools are eligible to apply. 3rd year medical students may apply for electives between March and June of their third year if they have completed all required pre-requisite 3rd year clinical clerkships. 4th year medical students may apply for electives between July and February of their 4th year if they have completed all required pre-requisite 4th year clinical clerkships. HousingHousing demands are highest in July and August. If you are interested in an elective during July or August, please contact us to discuss housing subsides and reimbursements.
