ElectivesForeign Visiting Students (*)Qualified students currently attending other American or foreign medical schools are welcome to take electives at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine. Application forms are available below. Visiting Student Coordinator Please begin the application process six-to-eight months in advance. * Pre-Requisite for Visiting and Foreign Visiting StudentsMust have advanced fluency in English language with the ability to communicate with patients. Must be able to use medical terminology, and report in attending rounds in oral presentations and record in writing patient information. If you do not meet the above mentioned prerequisite you will be withdrawn from the elective without replacement and will forfeit of all fees. View electives open to year three and year four medical students. Application InstructionsOnly students who are in good standing and have not yet received their M.D. or D.O. degree are eligible to apply. Applicants who attend schools in the United States or Puerto Rico must fill out the Visiting Student Application. All other students attending other schools must complete the Foreign Visiting Student Application. All foreign students must apply for the mandatory J1-Visa from The Mount Sinai Medical Center.In order to apply for a J-1 visa, all foreign students must obtain the mandatory DS-2019 Certificate of Eligibility form from The Mount Sinai Medical Center. Once you have received the acceptance letter from the school, you will require submitting the J-1 application and supporting documents for issuance of form DS-2019 to the Department of International Personnel. Courier ServiceThe Mount Sinai Medical Center Postal ServiceThe Mount Sinai Medical Center Upon arrival to U.S., you must schedule an appointment to have your DS-2019 validated within 15 days of your program start date to ensure you are in compliance with the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS). If you do not report for validation, your SEVIS record will be automatically terminated within 30 days of your program start date and you will require to pay a fee of $198 to the Department of State to reactivate your record. If you need to defer your start date you must notify International Personnel immediately. Positive titer serology for Measles, Rubella, and Hepatitis B are required from foreign students. We will accept MMRs and a 3-dose series for Hepatitis B from visiting students. Foreign visiting students do not call the divisions directly. They must submit all documents to the address on top of the first page of Foreign Visiting Student Application for processing. Apply to the New York State Department of Education for an Eligibility Letter after you have been accepted by Mount Sinai. We hope to see you soon at Mount Sinai.
