Our History

WMarietta Morchand donated $1 million to Mount Sinai School of Medicine to commemorate the lives of her late husband, Charles C., a medical publisher, and her deceased son, Charles A., to create the Morchand Center, to promote medical education and patient centered care. In 1991, the state-of-the-art Morchand Center opened, and medical training using Standardized Patients (SPs) was made available in New York City. Thanks to this and other grants, thousands of medical students and other health care professionals have had the opportunity to be taught and assessed on their clinical skills in a variety of simulated medical encounters. Standardized Patient interactions allow for immediate feedback to learners. This (along with other didactic tools), makes SP methodology uniquely suited for providing feedback on communication skills.
