The Journal notes with regret the death of Martin H. Savitz, M.D., Ph.D., on March 19, 2006, at the age of 64 years. Dr. Savitz, a neurosurgeon, was trained in that specialty at Mount Sinai under the direction of Dr. Leonard Malis and was an expert in the use of minimally invasive spinal surgery. He had many years of productive association with the Journal, serving as an assistant editor, organizing theme issues, publishing his own articles and reviewing those of other authors.

He is survived by his wife, Harmony (Keys); his son, Sean Savitz, M.D., of Beth Israel Hospital, Boston; his daughter, Ariel Austryn of New City, NY; one granddaughter; and his sister, Lesley Craig of Denver, CO.
