Everyone applying for grants should be aware that every research proposal submitted for funding must be sent to the GCO and either the IRB or the IACUC for approval well in advance of when you want to start your project. For projects that already have approval, a simple addendum may be submitted to include the student as a participant. Evaluation by the GCO includes review for accuracy of administrative information and budget, as well as for compliance with Federal, State, New York City, and Mount Sinai School of Medicine regulations, such as those pertaining to biosafety, or to the use of human subjects, vertebrate animals, or recombinant DNA. GCO application forms are available at: www.mssm.edu/grants/whatsnew.shtml and must be submitted using paper forms. In the future, submissions will be done electronically through InfoEd. When preparing your proposal, please allow enough time to complete these forms. Department Chair(s) of each key professional involved must review, approve and sign the GCO Form. Dr. David Muller will sign for students, whose department is Medical Education. After obtaining all the required signatures, please submit the application to Grants and Contracts Office, Icahn Medical Institute Building, 4th Floor, Rm. 4-79. Please contact them for further information at (212) 659-8970. The MSSM IRB is the official oversight committee for the protection of human subjects in research. The IRB approves, requires modification of, or disapproves research activities involving human subjects or tissue derived from human subjects. Please contact the IRB office for further information at (212) 659-8980. The MSSM Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) is the official oversight committee for the protection of laboratory animals in research. The MSSM IACUC approves, requires modification of, or disapproves any research activity using live vertebrate animals. Please contact them for further information at (212) 241-8955. |
