For Preceptors

Goal

To benefit patient outcome by focusing on community-oriented projects that encourage collaborations among medicine, nursing, and social work personnel.

Benefits to Students

Participation in these projects will contribute new knowledge and provide educational experiences where students will appreciate patients as complex individuals rather than isolated medical problems.

Preceptors Role in Developing Student Projects

  1. The goals of the project should be discussed with the student at the beginning of the fellowship and included in a final report of five pages that is due at the end of the fellowship.
  2. Unless you are going to meet daily with the student, make arrangements for another contact person for the student for questions, guidance, and teaching.
  3. Please meet with the student once a week to assess progress and promote discussions.
  4. IRB approval must be obtained before the fellowship begins (see below).
