Genetics Studies
he Movement Disorders Program in the Department of Neurology at the Mount Sinai Medical Center is conducting genetics studies to find the genes responsible for dystonia, myoclonic dystonia, essential tremor, and Parkinson's disease. Each gene contains DNA, which is the genetic material in human cells that determine such things as hair color, eye color, and other more complex traits. Finding the genes responsible for these disorders will enable researchers to better define the clinical presentation, to understand the pathological processes involved, to improve medical treatment, and, ultimately, to find a cure. In all genetic studies, strict confidentiality will be maintained to protect participant's privacy.
