The Clinical Program for Cerebrovascular Disorders

Treatment of Acute Stroke

A new sense of urgency in the treatment of acute stroke stems from the recognition that prompt diagnosis and treatment can minimize the extent of damage inflicted on the brain in the first several hours after stroke onset and improve a patient's chance for recovery. Accordingly, the Program's staff:

  • is available for emergency consultations with referring physicians 24 hours a day
  • helps expedite transfer of patients to Mount Sinai
  • provides coordination between the Emergency Department and the Program's Rapid Response Team for patients arriving via the Emergency Room
