Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Science

Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship

Also known as Urogynecology, this newest subspecialty of Ob/Gyn is now a major focus of Mount Sinai School of Medicine's Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Reproductive Science. Designed to meet the needs of the estimated 20 millions women in this country with disorders of the pelvic floor, urogynecology addresses benign conditions with major quality of life importance. Urinary and fecal incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse including cystoceles, rectoceles (dropped bladder and rectum) and uterine prolapse, chronic pelvic pain and sexual dysfunction are among the many areas of focus of this subspecialty.

Mount Sinai School of Medicine is proud to announce the initiation of its Fellowship Program in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery/Urogynecolgy. This highly competitive program requires three additional years of training after completion of an accredited residency in obstetrics and gynecology or two additional years after completion of an accredited residency in urology. The goals of the fellowship include leading the field through research and innovation with new and improved methods treating benign gynecologic conditions and the training of future leaders in the field.

The fellowship program, under the direction of Michael Vardy, MD, draws from the strengths of three urogynecologists at three centers and encompasses the cutting edge of minimally invasive treatments for all aspects of the field.

We are currently seeking accreditation for the Fellowship Program in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery/Urogynecolgy through ABOG and are accepting applications for the fellowship for 2008.
