Residency Program
Message from the Chairman
Building on a history of notable achievements in women’s health care, Mount Sinai School of Medicine’s Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Science is a leader in important advances in research and clinical management.
As fully integrated components of the Department, our graduate and undergraduate teaching programs are shaped by a superb faculty and the groundbreaking research that is conducted here. Our commitment to medical education is clear. The educational objectives established influence every aspect of the Department’s mission. At the undergraduate level, these objectives are:
- to provide all medical students with a solid foundation in obstetrics, gynecology, and reproductive medicine;
- to provide students with the groundwork necessary to render women's health care in whatever discipline they choose to enter; and
- to expose students to the field of obstetrics and gynecology as a possible area of specialization.
At the graduate level, these educational objectives are:
- to enable the house officer to render primary and specialty care to obstetrical and gynecologic patients;
- to train the graduate to perform the role of consultant obstetrician and gynecologist to general practitioners and other specialists, consistent with the standards of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology;
- to impart research skills and provide research opportunities; and
- to ensure that each resident be given introductory training and insight into the subspecialties of gynecologic oncology, maternal-fetal medicine, and reproductive endocrinology.
