The Medical Innovation Center (MIC) leadership team brings together researchers and entrepreneurs, and provides content and context by which new ventures can be successfully launched. Our staff of industry and intellectual property experts is working to strengthen Mount Sinai School of Medicine's entrepreneurial community by providing faculty, students, and research colleagues with a battery of educational programs, networking opportunities, technologies, and other resources needed to build quality companies.

Emmanuel Simons, Ph.D.
Licensing Liaison, OTBD

Prior to joining Mount Sinai's Office of Technology and Business Development in 2008, Manny completed his PhD in Biomedical Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology under the guidance of Professor Robert Langer. While developing novel antimicrobial and local anesthetic delivery systems, Manny was active in the community as President of the MIT Entrepreneurs Club, Co-Lead of the first MIT $100K Elevator Pitch Competition, and a student at the MIT-Sloan School of Management. Manny earned an A.B. in Neuroscience and Music from Harvard College, and is the author of several patents and scientific publications.

Eric Vieira, Ph.D.
Assistant Director of Marketing and Business Development, OTBD

Eric is Assistant Director for the Mount Sinai School of Medicine's Office of Technology and Business Development (OTBD) and is responsible for building alliances between the medical center's staff and industry to expedite novel biotechnology discovery and development. Prior to joining MSSM's OTBD, Eric was Vice President and Senior Biotech & Pharma Analyst at Majestic Research, an independent equity research firm on Wall Street. He has also worked as a biotech analyst for Lazard, an international investment bank, and Rodman & Renshaw, a boutique investment firm specializing in healthcare. During his tenure in the financial sector, Eric evaluated many small-, mid- and large-cap biotech companies, providing investment analysis to a global client base of institutional and hedge fund investors. Thus along with his scientific background, Eric brings to OTBD a deep understanding of the drug development process, market research know-how, and experience with the public equity markets. He received his Ph.D. in Developmental Genetics from New York University's School of Medicine and his B.A in Molecular Biology & Biochemistry from Rutgers College, Rutgers University.
