Robin Ginsburg, M.D.
Dr. Robin Ginsburg, Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology, is the Director of the Vitreoretinal Surgery Service. Her special interests include retinal photocoagulation, vitreous surgery for complicated retinal detachment, trauma, and diabetic retinopathy. With a background in neural sciences and biopsychology, she received her B.A. cum laude from Wesleyan University. Dr. Ginsburg received her M.D. from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, where she was presented the Alvin Behrens Memorial Award for Achievement in Ophthalmology. She completed her residency in ophthalmology at the Kellogg Eye Center, University of Michigan, followed by a fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery at the New England Eye Center, New England Medical Center, Tufts School of Medicine. Dr. Ginsburg is a Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology. Dr. Ginsburg is an active member of several professional societies, including the Fight for Sight Grant Review Committee and Women in Ophthalmology. She is an experienced teacher and lecturer who has spoken on the subjects of therapeutics in age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, unexplained visual loss, and molecular genetics of retinitis pigmentosa to the Departments of Geriatrics and Internal Medicine and as guest lecturer at Fight for Sight. In addition, she supervises the Retina Clinic at The Mount Sinai Hospital. Dr. Ginsburg is the principal investigator of the prospective pilot study of the cytomegalovirus retinitis (CMV retinitis) in HIV-infected children, a study she initiated, ongoing since 1996. As well, she is an investigator for Mount Sinai's Studies of the Ocular Complications of AIDS and has published papers on the genetic sequencing of autosomal retinitis pigmentosa. Dr. Ginsburg is available for consultation in all diseases of the retina and vitreous. Generally, it is a long visit, requiring several hours. Your eyes will be dilated, so bringing sunglasses is suggested. We ask that you bring all medications you might be using at this time.
