A variety of disorders, such as loss of vision, double vision, droopy eyelids, and unequal pupils, are caused by or are associated with neurological diseases. Neuro-Ophthalmology is the field that deals with such eye disorders. This specialty requires knowledge of ophthalmology, neurology, neurosurgery, and neuroradiology. Thus, most neuro-ophthalmologists are located in academic medical centers. Patients referred to Dr. Mindel receive a complete evaluation, including testing of visual acuity, eye movements, eye alignment, and visual fields. Patients may also undergo a variety of other diagnostic tests, such as CT scanning, MR imaging, and ultrasonography of the orbits and of the blood vessels of the neck and head. Upon completion of the evaluation, the patient is told the results, and suggestions for further testing or therapy are made. A complete report is sent to the referring physician. Joel S.
