Research Guidelines, Distinction in Research, and Scholarly Year

Research projects can be carried out during the summer between years 1 and 2, during the INSPIRE program in year 4, or as an elective in years 3 and 4. Students also may elect to do a Scholarly Year in order to obtain a more intensive research experience, either at MSSM or at another site. Students participating in all of these programs share the results of their projects with the medical school community on the annual Medical Student Research Day, either as an oral talk or a poster. The Medical Student Research Office also coordinates the Distinction in Research Program which entitles students who publish a first author paper on an original research project in a peer-reviewed journal or who submit a thesis to graduate with research honors.
