Summer Research Programs
The eight-week Summer Research Program
- can be in basic science, clinical science, translational science, epidemiology, health policy, and so on.
The Patricia S. Levinson Fellowship for Community Oriented Research and Service is
- designed to support projects that focus on encouraging and enhancing collaboration among medicine, nursing, and social work in order to benefit patient outcome.
- takes place during the eight-week summer intersession.
Funding for Summer Research
- Funds in the amount of $3,000 are available on a competitive basis to support the work of students who do summer research.
- Projects can be basic, clinical, or part of the Patricia S. Levinson Fellowship. In the Patricia S. Levinson Fellowship, students work on projects selected from a list of projects that focus on encouraging and enhancing collaboration among medicine, nursing, and social work, or they may develop a project that fits the program guidelines with their mentor.
- With rare exceptions, students may accept only one source of funding for a single project. In no case can two sources of funding pay for the same expenses.
- Two students may not work on the exact same project, but they may collaborate on different parts of a larger project.
- To apply for funding, submit a brief abstract on your project, using the online submission to WEB-ED and a letter of support from faculty mentor by April 13, 2009, to the Medical Student Research Office, Annenberg 13-30, Box 1257. The abstract should include a title, your name, your mentor's name, and his/her department. Although you should work on this with your faculty mentor. You must do a minimum of 8 weeks of summer research to qualify for funding. Please remember, applicants for this program must also submit FAFSA forms by April 20, 2009, in order to be eligible for funding.
- By August 14, you will be required to submit an abstract for Research Day. All funded students must participate in Research Day in November. Levinson students must submit a 5-10 page report on their projects by August 14.
