Reaching Children InitiativeOverviewIntroduction
An interactive continuing medical education (CME) activity funded by a September 11 recovery grant from the American Red Cross Liberty Disaster Relief Fund is now available though the Jack and Lucy Clark Department of Pediatrics at Mount Sinai School of Medicine. The new CME activity called Reaching Children Initiative aims to increase children's access to mental health services through active outreach and continuing medical education of pediatricians in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. Lack of training is a significant barrier to access to mental health services in primary care. In response, Reaching Children Initiative offers continuing medical education that focuses on how to address psychosocial issues in children that present in primary care by enhancing physicians' understanding of the impact of trauma in children's lives and providing ways to effectively support and/or intervene therapeutically. Reaching Children Initiative will recruit 250-300 physicians to attend one of ten full-day training sessions. There is no cost to attend this CME activity. If you interested in attending or to receive further information, please send an e-mail to reaching.children@mssm.edu or call (212) 241-7886. |
