Overview

Target Audience

The target audience for this continuing medical education is pediatricians in the tri-state area who are practicing in zip codes identified to have the highest need. Audience members include individuals with a/an M.D., D.O., Ph.D., R.N., or other professional degree.

Recruitment of clinicians will focus on regions with a high population of children directly impacted (predominantly those who lost a parent or were dislocated) by the events of September 11. The project has identified these target zip codes using three sources of data:

1. Needs assessment of pediatricians post-9/11 Laraque et al. 2004 paying particular attention to those who reported seeing children directly affected by 9/11 in their practice(s).
2. Data from the bereavement registry developed by Claude M. Chemtob, Ph.D., and
3. Input from 2 family groups - Tuesday's Children and Families of September 11

Local mental health specialists and family groups are not targeted for training but will be invited to participate during the networking component. This invited group includes individuals with a/an M.D., Ph.D., C.S.W., P.N.P. or other related degree or others interested in improving children's access to mental health services.

Given the important role of practice and nurse managers in clinic operations with regard to mental health care, space will also be reserved for one practice or nurse manager to attend.
