Primary Care ServicesOverviewAt the core of the Division of General Pediatrics at Mount Sinai School of Medicine is the provision of primary care services that accommodate approximately 80,000 visits at four locations:
Pediatric AssociatesPediatric Associates was established in 1993 and has developed into a comprehensive attending/resident practice with expanded, full services six days a week, 24 hour/7 day a week telephone triage, on-site mental health services, and an array of specialty primary care services described below. There are a total of 56 pediatric trainees (43 categorical residents, 10 triple board residents, and three genetics residents) who are an integral part of this resident/faculty primary care practice. Comprehensive care is achieved via an interdisciplinary approach involving child life, social work, mental health specialists, a psychologist, and nurses connected to an extensive community-based approach to care. The program is funded by the New York State Department of Health, and in 2001 the division successfully competed for funding for the next five years. The PED SBHC is a valuable link to The Mount Sinai Medical Center’s wealth of resources and specialized care. The health services provided help to assure the health and social welfare of children in East Harlem. Five private clinician educators and four pediatric residents provide services to patients at this primary care clinic.
