AIDS Psychiatry Fellowship

The Mount Sinai Medical Center

The Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City invites applications for an Academy of Psychosomatic Medicine accredited fellowship in AIDS psychiatry. Advanced training is offered to psychiatrists who have completed psychiatric residency training.

This fellowship provides the opportunity to become part of a multidisciplinary team providing care for persons with AIDS. Emphasis is on HIV and community psychiatry from the standpoint of transmission, prevention, clinical, and palliative care. The fellow teaches medical students, residents, and other AIDS clinicians. The fellow is encouraged to participate in research projects as well as in the community outreach program to assist homeless persons with HIV and AIDS in obtaining access to medical and psychiatric care. The program provides clinical, educational, administrative, and research supervision as well as a journal club, research conference, and community seminar.

The program is a one- or two-year fellowship. The second year is entirely optional and includes a research component that leads to a Master in Public Health.

Fellowship Goals

  • To develop clinical expertise in AIDS psychiatric care and the skills to establish and maintain an AIDS psychiatry service at other facilities
  • To develop clinical expertise in the multidisciplinary care of AIDS psychiatric patients in a variety of settings
  • To develop teaching and team leadership skills
  • To become familiar with and proficient in evaluating the AIDS psychiatry literature
  • To become familiar with the design and implementation of clinical research currently in progress at Mount Sinai School of Medicine
