Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship Training Program
Clinical Rotations
Pediatric Neurology
The Pediatric Neurology rotation is a three-month longitudinal
experience for three hours weekly required in the first year of the Child and
Adolescent Fellowship. The clinic is at The Mount Sinai Medical Center and
is attended by trainees for one half day per week. It is supervised by three
board certified Pediatric Neurologists and staffed by neurology residents as
well as Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellows. Fellows complete initial neurological
examinations and provide follow-up care of previously diagnosed neurological
disorders. Additionally they provide psychiatric consultation to the clinic.
The clinic sees pediatric patients from age birth to 21 years with the majority
of patients aged between four and 16 years. The clinic provides services predominantly
to the Medical Center’s catchment area population. The distribution of patients
includes 50 percent African American, 45 percent Latino, and 5 percent Caucasian.
Trainees are exposed to a range of disorders including headaches and seizure
disorders. Treatments vary with the disorders and include close monitoring
of medication and specialty referral. During each session trainees see approximately
four patients under the direct supervision of a Pediatric Neurology Attending.
