Mood and Personality Disorders Research ProgramOur StaffLarry J. Siever, M.D.Larry J. Siever is the director of the Special Evaluation Program for Mood and Personality Disorders and is a Professor of Psychiatry at Mount Sinai School of Medicine. He is also Director of the Mental Illness Research Education CC. Dr. Siever is an internationally recognized leader in the field of personality disorder research. Throughout his career, his focus has been on the neurobiological substrates that underlie both borderline personality disorder and schizotypal personality disorder, and has published numerous articles and a book in this area. His present research employs neuroimaging techniques and cognitive enhancement to explore dopaminergic abnormalities in schizotypal personality disorder as part of the schizophrenia spectrum. His work in borderline personality disorder currently employs Positron Emission Tomography to identify specific receptor distribution in the brain that might underlie this pathology. He is also a well recognized teacher and clinican in the field of personality disorders. Antonia New, M.D.Antonia S. New, M.D. is the Associate Director of the Special Evaluation service and an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Mount Sinai School of Medicine. She is involved in research, clinical work and teaching at the medical school. She specializes in borderline personality disorder, exploring the neurobiological underpinnings of this disorder as well as the implications of these findings on treatment. Her research focus is on impulsive aggression and she uses neuroimaging techniques, genetic studies, laboratory assessment of behavior and treatment studies. She also studies the effect of sex hormones on impulsive aggressive behavior. Marianne Goodman, M.D.Marianne S. Goodman, M.D. is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Mount Sinai School of Medicine. She is involved in treatment research on borderline personality disorder, clinical work and coordinates the medical student education program for the department of Psychiatry at the James J. Peters VA Medical Center. Her research focuses on Dialectical Behavioral Therapy treatment for Borderline Personality Disorder and childhood trauma antecedents.
