Sudha Kailas
sudha.kailas@mssm.edu
Sudha grew up in New Orleans, Louisiana, and no, she did not evacuate when Hurricane Katrina ravaged the area. She attended college at the University of Chicago, where she studied neuroscience and researched coherence patterns in the epileptic brain. She then returned to New Orleans and attended Tulane Medical School, where she also received a Master's in Pharmacology and a PhD in Neuroscience, studying morphine-mediated effects of serotonin in the brain. Sudha is actually quite fun and enjoys everything life has to offer, especially exploring, music, dancing, yoga, writing, and photography. Her more recent travels include Mexico, Jamaica, India, and her imagination!
Why triple board? I am most interested in the interface between psychological and physiologic medicine, and this program allows broad exposure to the complicated human system. One of my current goals is to widen the research base on the therapeutic effects of complementary medicine practices, such as yoga, in order to better facilitate their use in wider medical practices.
Advice for interviewees: "Try to be as true to yourself as possible, always, but especially during the interviewing process. Your instinct will guide you, and your honesty will be compelling."
