Nicole was born in Bergen County, NJ where she lived until she was 11 years old and then moved to a much warmer climate - Florida! She attended University of Florida in Gainesville, where she majored in psychology and had a lot of fun cheering for the Gators. She went to medical school in Grenada at St. George's University School of Medicine. Nicole spent her clinical years in Brooklyn and then did her intern year of pediatrics at Tulane and Baylor (after the hurricane). She just transferred to Sinai and is so happy to be back in NYC! She is a huge college basketball fan and has won her March Madness pool three years in a row. Nicole loves to shop and spend time with close friends.
Why triple board: Nicole wants to work with children with newly diagnosed chronic medical diseases. The pediatric background will help with knowing how the diseases present and are treated and the psychiatry background will allow her to help with the mental difficulties that chronic disease brings. She wants to work in a children's hospital or specialty practice and be able to do family as well as individual child/adolescent therapy.
Advice for interviewees: "Be yourself! Make sure that you can see yourself being friends with the people in the program. Ask each program about what is most important to you and make sure you tell the programs what you want out of your residency."
Best experience in residency: Intubating for the first time and actually getting it without help was amazing. But having parents thank you for helping their child is one of the most gratifying feelings in the world.
