In addition to these research centers, numerous studies funded by state and federal agencies as well as private donors are currently in progress. Department members are currently carrying out research in the following areas:

Clinical Trials of New Interventions

• Medication to improve autonomic functioning after SCI
• Medication to improve cognitive functioning after TBI
• Use of fabric to reduce the risk of pressure sore development
• Medication to improve metabolic functions after SCI
• Electrical stimulation to improve shoulder function of persons with stroke

Evaluation Studies

• Cardiovascular risk in individuals with SCI
• Community integration in persons with TBI
• Effectiveness of a peer mentoring program for persons with TBI and their families
