Overview
he faculty of Mount
Sinai's Department of Rehabilitation Medicine has a long and distinguished
history
of excellence in rehabilitation research.
We have been awarded multiple grants from government agencies and private foundations,
and have undertaken a wide variety of projects examining multiple aspects
of rehabilitation and community integration for individuals with brain injury,
spinal cord injury, and other disabilities. Our goals are to use research to
improve knowledge about traumatic brain injury (TBI) and spinal cord injury
(SCI) and related conditions; to develop, evaluate, and perfect state-of-the-art
interventions; and to improve quality of life and community integration after
the onset of injury and disability. In order to promote more relevant, scientifically
sound research that reflects the needs and concerns of consumers, it is our
philosophy to involve individuals with disabilities in all levels of our research
activities. Currently, members of our Department run three major research
centers.
