Inpatient Rehabilitation Services
Psychological Service
omprehensive psychological services are provided to patients and families and include the following:
- Psychological evaluation of emotional adjustment to disability and of cognitive abilities such as new learning and problem solving. This evaluation is provided to all patients who are admitted to the inpatient SCI rehabilitation unit, and in the outpatient setting to those who request psychological services.
- Individual, family, or marital counseling to address issues of adjustment to disability, relationship problems, and behavioral patterns that may interfere with optimal coping or reduce a person's capacity to achieve functional independence. These services are offered on an inpatient and outpatient basis.
- Psychological management of a preexisting psychiatric illness such as major affective disorder, psychotic conditions, or personality disorder. This may involve consultation with a psychiatrist and support services provided by a psychologist on both an inpatient and outpatient basis.
- Neuropsychological screening, evaluation, and treatment of concomitant traumatic brain injury are offered on an inpatient basis, with patient/family psychoeducation and intervention regarding traumatic brain injury issues. Combined outpatient brain injury treatment and SCI rehabilitation is also available.
- SCI education and support groups are offered to patients and families to share their experiences and learn all about the special needs, hopes, and aspirations of persons with SCI.
