Seating and Mobility Clinic
he Seating and Mobility Clinic assists individuals with the selection of mobility devices that best fit their level of injury, body build, and type of lifestyle. A wide variety of manual wheelchairs, scooters, and power wheelchairs are available for evaluation.
Seating system evaluation and prescription includes cushions and other supports placed in and on the chair or scooter. Each seating system is customized to each individual's needs (level of injury, body type, presence of pressure sores), whether we are utilizing "off the shelf" products or custom molded systems.
The Xsensor(tm) pressure mapping system is available as a diagnostic tool to assist with seating system prescription for individuals with pressure sores. It is also a useful tool to evaluate different pressure relief techniques.
Clinic staff work closely with rehabilitation technology suppliers to adapt the wheelchair and/or seating system to meet the individual's needs, generate appropriate prescriptions, and complete the necessary paperwork for insurance companies to ensure payment and delivery of the product. In addition, education on the care and maintenance of the prescribed wheelchair and/or cushion is provided.
Expert consultation is available for individuals who are newly disabled and individuals who are looking to replace or upgrade their current wheelchair and/or seating system. The team in the Seating and Mobility Clinic includes the individual looking for a new product, family members/caretakers, physiatrist, occupational therapist, rehabilitation technology supplier, rehabilitation technology practitioner, and, if needed, a respiratory therapist. |
