Therapeutic Recreation

Recreation and leisure are very important components of everyone’s life. The therapeutic recreation treatment program at MS-SCI-MS assists patients to maximize newly learned skills and abilities to allow them to explore community accessibility and community integration.

This treatment program offered by the Therapeutic Recreation Department provides leisure skill development, social/cognitive integration skills, transit training, wheelchair mobility sports training, and a weekly community luncheon. At this luncheon, the newly injured individual has the opportunity to interact with "veterans," people who have a spinal cord injury and are back living in the community.

A variety of other services are available and include stress management, leisure alternative activities, community dining, and leisure resources. The resource library has a collection of publications on disability and health related concerns, adapted sports, the Americans with Disabilities Act, community recreation resources, travel resources, and more.
