About The Center

ADHD is a neuro-developmental disorder that makes it difficult for children to pay attention and/or control their impulses. Symptoms are present from early childhood and, although some children learn to adapt and control their behaviors, 30% to 60% of children with ADHD experience symptoms as adults. When left untreated, ADHD may:

  • Interfere with making good choices
  • Interfere with interpersonal relationships
  • Interfere with completion of assignments at school or work
  • Contribute to emotional problems as children fail to thrive socially and academically and come to view themselves as being lazy, incompetent, or ‘bad’

The Center of Excellence in ADHD and Related Disorders brings together an inter-disciplinary team to study key questions related to developmental neurobiology, psychopathology, pathophysiology and treatment. The center’s efforts link evidence-based pharmacologic and psychosocial treatments with state of the art research approaches using neuroimaging and genetics, ensuring that advances in the scientific basis of ADHD and its treatment inform clinical care delivery.
