About Us
We are a specialized group of psychiatrists working at the interface of psychiatry and medicine. For centuries doctors have known that psychiatric factors contribute to morbidity and mortality in the medically ill. Research confirms this mind-body connection by revealing a high co-morbidity of medical and psychiatric illness and the negative impact of psychiatric symptoms on both quality of life and illness outcomes in a wide variety of disease and life states. This includes cancer, fibromyalgia, multiple sclerosis, chronic pain, lupus, traumatic brain injury, and pregnancy and postpartum states to name a few. Our psychiatrists are extraordinarily skilled at evaluating and relieving psychiatric illness in patients with all types of complex medical illness. They have clinical expertise in both psychotherapeutic and psychopharmacologic interventions, as well as a detailed understanding of the psychological reactions to illness. We provide psychiatric consultation to all medical inpatient services at the Mount Sinai Medical Center and outpatient psychiatric consultation to the Corinne Goldsmith Multiple Sclerosis Center, the Recanati Miller Transplant Center, and the Jack Martin Fund Clinic for patients living with HIV/AIDS.
