Shared Resource Facilities (SRF)Irradiator Shared Resource FacilityIcahn Medical Institute, Room SC28 The Irradiator SRF provides investigators with access to two cesium-source irradiators for treatment of tissue culture cells and/or mice. Homeland Security and New York State Department of Health regulations require increased control of access to radiation sources on campus. A central requirement of the regulations is a background check for "reliability and trustworthiness" of all users. In order for MSSM to comply with these regulations, be consistent with current hospital policy, and assure irradiator reliability, it became necessary to institute a policy governing use of the two irradiators in the SRF, including the hiring of an SRF Research Coordinator who is responsible for irradiation of all samples. The irradiators are located in the Icahn Medical Institute rodent barrier facility, and are operated by the SRF Research Coordinator. All scheduling is done through a web-based calendar (http://irradiator.mssm.edu/week.php) where irradiator time can be reserved in 15 minute increments. The irradiator is operated Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, and all samples (cell cultures or mice) that are brought to the facility will be irradiated by the SRF Research Coordinator, using dosages provided by the lab personnel who bring the samples to the irradiator facility. The individual laboratory is responsible for ensuring that the cells and/or animals receive the proper dosage. A service fee of $15 for each 15 minutes of reserved irradiator time will be assessed for usage of the Irradiator SRF. Irradiator User Authorization Form Documents above marked
