Shared Resource Facilities (SRF)Mouse and Rat Phenotyping FacilityJames J. Peters VA Medical Center The Mouse and Rat Phenotyping Facility can quickly and comprehensively elucidate the behavioral phenotype of laboratory animals following modification by genetic, pharmacological, surgical, or other means. Knockout and transgenic animals are increasingly common experimental models and the facility will serve researchers by characterizing the behavioral phenotypes of these animals as completely as possible, determining not only whether the modification affects the predicted systems but how it alters other systems as well. This will lead to a better understanding of how genetics underlie behavior and of the mechanisms underlying genetic modification-induced phenotypic changes. At our state-of-the-art phenotyping center, we are equipped to carry out most standard behavioral tests in mice and rats including motor behavior, learning and memory, reproductive behavior, social behavior, and other complex behaviors. We are also available to aid in experimental design and analysis of behavior and can facilitate referrals for morphological analysis. ContactsCore Services and FeesJoseph D.
