Any patient who suffers from intestinal failure may be a candidate for intestinal transplantation, including patients who are not yet on TPN but are about to begin this therapy. In particular, people who experience thrombosis (clotting) or infections of the catheters used to administer TPN or who develop liver dysfunction or certain types of polyps or tumors should be evaluated for transplantation.
