ProgramsKidney/Pancreas TransplantationResearch ProtocolsThe transplant community is constantly in search of new and improved methods to achieve long-term survival in transplant recipients, while decreasing the side effects of medications. In addition, we are also searching for better ways to use current immunosuppression and to expand the criteria and uses of transplantation for other groups of patients. What follows is a brief description of the current clinical research projects involving kidney and/or pancreas transplant recipients at the RMTI. We are actively enrolling patients into these protocols and are soliciting referrals for patients who might best benefit from these approaches. We feel that part of our mission at Mount Sinai is to further clinical research and its benefits for all of our patients and their families. In addition, our research efforts support our commitment to excellence in medical education for students, residents, and fellows. If you feel that you have any patients that may qualify for these protocols or if you have any questions relating to these, or other types of clinical research, please do not hesitate to call the office and ask to speak with one of our physicians. Current Research ProjectsThere are number of advantages for patients involved in our current studies and research projects. Most significant among these are access to the newest regimens, applications, and drugs; free drug supplies; some free medical exams and testing; close follow-up; and assurance that the Center is current with changes in the field.
