Careers in ScienceThe purpose of the Careers in Science (CIS) student group is to provide graduate students (PhD and MD/PhD) at Mount Sinai with guidance for and exposure to successful science careers. While many graduate-level students at Mount Sinai feel they have been properly trained to conduct research, many feel that they have not been adequately prepared to embark on a professional career. Towards that end, CIS will hold monthly meetings consisting of lectures, workshops and/or panel discussions for students to meet professionals from academia, industry, medicine, education, small business, law, government, and other relevant career-tracks for doctorate level scientists. CIS will provide instruction on topics such as securing grants, technical writing, training in patent law, gaining education experience, starting a small business, academic leadership, etc. While, the content of CIS will vary depending on the pursuits of current student-members, CIS also exists to expose to students to career options they may not have considered. Lastly, CIS will serve as a forum to inform all graduate students at Mount Sinai of career information and training opportunities at the school and across the New York City area.
