Mount Sinai Farm Share
Mission Statement
Mount Sinai CSA will provide its hospital and community members with weekly deliveries of fresh, sustainably produced, affordable, organic produce. The CSA operates by directly pairing our community with a local organic farmer, eliminating unnecessary politico-economic structures that increase the cost of food and degrade its quality and the environment.
Why a CSA?
The purpose of the CSA is to override social and economic structures that have contributed to the degradation of the environment, the perversion of the food supply, the exploitation of farm laborers, the torture of animals, and the widespread malnutrition and obesity of the economically disadvantaged and the general public. CSAs are a national and global phenomenon that are gradually restructuring the agroeconomic complex that has failed to provide individuals with an affordable, healthy, ethical choice for one of the most basic human functions, eating.
Mount Sinai Hospital and Medical School always strive to be leaders in diverse social causes that improve the health and quality of life of its community. Following this long existing paradigm, the Mount Sinai CSA will enter the vanguard of food activism.
Partners
The Mount Sinai CSA is partnered with Just Food, a regional organization that pairs farmers and CSAs and provides educational and community support for new CSAs.
