LAFEMS: L'Association Francophile des Étudiants en Médecine et Sciences

The mission of LAFEMS is:

• To unify students who enjoy learning and/or speaking the French language for casual conversation in French, French language study and practice, and participation in events of Francophone persuasion
• To expand student literacy and awareness of medicine- and biomedical science-related matters in the French language and of relevance to the French-speaking world, and
• To invite Francophone and Francophile faculty members and fellows from both the medical and graduate schools at Mount Sinai to participate in LAFEMS activities to enrich and contribute to these goals

In pursuit of these goals, LAFEMS will;

• Continue French conversation tables, introducing more of a penchant for medicine- and science-related matters
• Create opportunities for French language learning and practice, e.g. workshops focusing on French medical vocabulary
• Create and/or identify extracurricular Francophone/Francophile activities and events at Mount Sinai and in NYC
• Encourage intellectual exchanges in medicine and science among native- and second-language speakers of French in both the medical and graduate schools
