Team Sinai Running ClubThe goal of the Team Sinai Running Club is to embrace those interested in running in any capacity and to enhance the Sinai runner's experience. RUN: For students who are interested in training, we enter into at least one fall and one spring race that serve as great training goals for runners at all levels. We head to the race together and end with a celebratory meal. We have also designed a Team Sinai running singlet in order to foster a team feeling at our running events. Each year, the singlet goes on sale, mostly targeting first years, but is open to and has been sold to runners of any position in the Sinai community. UNITE: Students also use the running club as a way to match up with running partners and organize group runs. The club is particularly valuable to new runners who want tips on anything from where to run in NYC to how to train. Our primary communication is via email, though a website would be more effective and is one of our goals. LEARN: Through both a fall and spring event, the running club educates its members. Past presentations include "How do I stay fit during medical school? How do I effectively encourage my patients to stay physically active?" (by a panel of medical students, residents, physicians, and other faculty) and "How to stay healthy and injury-free as a runner" (by a Sports Medicine specialist). These educational opportunities are informative not only for runners, but for a broader audience since they also apply to the practice of medicine. For more information, contact studentc@mssm.edu. |
