ElectivesForeign Visiting Students (*)Qualified students currently attending American or foreign medical schools are welcome to take electives at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine and our affiliates. The participating affiliates include: Elmhurst, Bronx VA and North General Hospitals. Applications must be submitted to the Students Affairs office 8-9 months before the requested Elective start date. * Pre-Requisite for Visiting and Foreign Visiting StudentsMust be fluent in the English language to ensure proper communication with patients. Must be able to use medical terminology, and report in attending rounds in oral presentations and record in writing patient information. If you do not meet the above mentioned prerequisite you will be withdrawn from the elective without replacement and will forfeit of all fees. Positive titer serology for Measles, Rubella, and Hepatitis B are required from foreign students. Foreign/Visiting students are not allowed to contact the divisions directly. They must submit the completed Foreign/Visiting student Elective application to the Visiting Student Coordinator for processing. Students are required to apply to the New York State Department of Education for an Eligibility Letter after you have been accepted by Mount Sinai. Please note the following electives are not being offered to foreign students at Mount Sinai School of Medicine. If available at our affiliates you may apply. Sub-Internship in Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Pulmonary, Palliative Care Consultation, Introduction to Internship and the Critical Ill, Introduction to Emergency Ultrasound, Clinical Experience in Oriental Medicine, and Palliative Care Consultation. Sub-Internship in Pediatric, Pediatric Emergency Medicine, Pediatric Pulmonary, Pediatric-Out-Patient, and Pediatric Rheumatology. Foreign Visiting Student Elective Application InstructionsPlease begin the application process eight-nine months in advance. Only students who are in good standing and have not yet received their M.D. or D.O. degree are eligible to apply. All students attending foreign medical schools must complete the Foreign/Visiting Student Application. Please submit all foreign visiting student elective applications to one of the following addresses: Courier Service Postal Service If you have questions related to the foreign visiting student elective program, please contact: Jeanneth Persaud Upon acceptance to the foreign visiting student elective program, all foreign students must obtain a mandatory F1-Visa to participate. The Mount Sinai Medical Center will provide you with the required documentation to obtain the F-1 visa from a US Embassy/Consulate abroad. In order to apply for an F-1 visa, all applicants require a Certificate of Eligibility, Form I-20, from The Mount Sinai Medical Center. Once you have received your acceptance letter to the foreign visiting student elective program, you will be required to complete and submit an F-1 application with supporting documents to International Personnel. Once all of the required documentation is received by their office, a Form I-20 Certificate of Eligibility will be issued to facilitate your F-1 visa issuance. Courier ServiceThe Mount Sinai Medical Center Postal ServiceThe Mount Sinai Medical Center Upon arrival to U.S., you must schedule an appointment to register your F-1 student record to ensure you are in compliance with the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS). If you do not report for registration, your SEVIS record will be automatically terminated within 30 days of your program start date and you will require to pay a fee of $198 to the Department of State to reinstate your record.
