Dissemination and Knowledge Translation

Two related sets of activities are used in applying new knowledge that emerges from RRTC research to effect changes that will contribute to a better life for people with TBI. First, capacity building, as described in the Training Programs section, refers to training programs intended to enhance the professional base. The second means, knowledge translation, refers specifically to shaping the output of RRTC research projects (R1-R4) into distinct messages that effectively communicate with a variety of audiences: consumers, their family members, clinicians, researchers, and policy makers.

Four mechanisms for conveying new information through KT activities have been incorporated into specific plans: 1) training activities; 2) materials of several types, e.g., consumer-oriented publications, training materials; 3) dissemination media, e.g., the Web site, presentations; and 4) technical assistance to support individuals, organizations, and agencies in the process of implementing system changes resulting from information disseminated by the RRTC.
