Center for OncoGenomics and Innovative Therapeutics

Career Opportunities

Postdoctoral Researcher/Scientist
The Center for Oncogenomics and Innovative Therapies at The Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City is seeking a highly motivated and skilled postdoctoral researcher or scientist to join our dynamic research team. This position presents an exciting opportunity to contribute to leading-edge research in the field of oncogenomics and develop innovative therapeutic strategies for cancer treatment. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in designing and executing mouse studies related to oncology while utilizing advanced genomics techniques to investigate cell state dynamics in cancer.

The successful candidate will collaborate closely with team members and principal investigators to develop groundbreaking therapeutic strategies specifically focused on colorectal cancer (with future opportunities to extend the work to other solid tumors). Staying abreast of the latest advancements in the field of oncogenomics and high impact publications are also expected.

Job Position #1

Responsibilities:

  • Routine handling, restraint, and identification (ear notching) of mice
  • Independently conduct in vivo studies by administering therapeutic agents through various routes (e.g., oral gavage, intraperitoneal, intravenous)
  • Monitor cancer progression through caliper measurements, bioluminescence imaging or flow cytometry.
  • Perform blood draws, necropsies, and process ex vivo samples
  • Cultivate mammalian cell cultures, primarily organoid/tumoroid models
  • Interpret, present, and document experiments based on generated data to investigators
  • Maintain and report accurate records of data
  • Adhere to IACUC requirements (animal standard operating procedures) and DFCI institutional guidelines and policies.
  • Conduct a wide range of molecular biology techniques, such as DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, qPCR, cloning, western blotting and chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChiP).
  • You will have the opportunity to be trained on genomics techniques such as ATAC-seq, RNA-seq, CUT&RUN etc.

Requirements:

  • PhD in a relevant field (e.g., cancer biology, molecular biology, genetics, or related disciplines).
  • Strong experience in conducting in vivo experiments using mouse models, including injection techniques, tumor monitoring/measurement, and sample collection.
  • Proficiency in a wide range of molecular biology techniques, including DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, qPCR, cloning, and western blotting.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in microsurgery and/or intravital imaging is preferred but not essential
  • Experience with testing the efficacy, tolerability, and PK/PD of novel therapeutics is a plus.

Job Position #2

Responsibilities:

  • Cultivate mammalian cell cultures, primarily intestinal organoid/tumoroid models
  • Derive and establish normal and cancer organoid lines form mice and patient samples
  • Design and conduct drug screenings and evaluate the efficacy of novel therapeutics in preclinical organoid models.
  • Use reporter expressing organoid models to assess cell state dynamics, in response to various compounds and drug candidates, using flow cytometry analysis.
  • Conduct a wide range of molecular biology techniques, such as DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, qPCR, cloning, western blotting and chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChiP).
  • Interpret, present, and document experiments based on generated data to investigators
  • Maintain and report accurate records of data
  • Experience with genomics techniques such as ATAC-seq, RNA-seq, ChiP-seq, CUT&RUN is preferred.
  • Experience within vivo preclinical models of oncology is also preferred.

Requirements:

  • PhD in a relevant field (e.g., cancer biology, molecular biology, genetics, or related disciplines).
  • Proficiency in a wide range of molecular biology techniques, including DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, qPCR, cloning, western blotting, chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChiP) and CUT&RUN.
  • Proficiency in mammalian cell cultures—particularly organoids.
  • Proficiency in flow cytometry.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

Additional preferred skills:

  • Routine handling, restraint, and identification (ear notching) of mice
