This is an exciting moment in health care, one in which we have a rapidly expanding range of opportunities to incorporate the information from each of our genetic codes into the decision-making around health care to improve our health. The goal in the Division of Genomic Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai is to expand the implementation of these opportunities so that we are including valuable insights from genomic information in the care of all patients.

Through genomic screening initiatives, the Division of Genomic Medicine plans to make differences in both patient care and public health. Our genomics-first approach to care is being applied in the Genomic Health Clinic and in collaborative efforts with the Institute for Genomic Health, as well as other partners across Mount Sinai. 

Our educational mission within the Division is to enhance genomic medicine knowledge relative to new research and practical care delivery. Educational efforts include the Genomic Medicine Track (link to: https://icahn.mssm.edu/education/residencies-fellowships/list/msh-internal-medicine-residency/education) for Internal Medicine residents initiated in 2020, as well as Continuing Medical Education for practicing providers.

I joined Mount Sinai in 2023 because of its national reputation for supporting the incorporation of evidence-based genomic medicine into patient care. Our Division’s clinical research will build on that foundation to drive new care opportunities and best practices that will expand the implementation of genomics into patient care at Mount Sinai.

In the months and years ahead, we also plan to expand our faculty and staff in order to meet the growing opportunities in patient care, education, and clinical research.
