For more than 100 years, The Estelle and Daniel Maggin Department of Neurology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, has continued to grow and contribute to research and patient care. Our Neurology Department members strive to improve outcomes through innovative research that spans across a wide range of basic, translational, epidemiological and clinical research investigating a range of neurological conditions, including brain and spinal cord tumors, epilepsy, headaches, multiple sclerosis and other inflammatory and autoimmune conditions, neuropathies, Parkinson's disease, stroke and other neurological disorders in children and adults.
The Department of Neurology is ranked #12 nationally in NIH funding in 2019, with nearly 200 faculty, and a large majority involved in clinical and/or basic science research. With several of the nation’s top programs in research and patient care and more than 65,000 patient visits annually, our investigators aim to improve outcomes, through research, in those living with neurological conditions.
Our researchers have access to cutting-edge facilities as well as departmental core resources to support their programs, including a Neurology Biostatistics Core, IRB/Regulatory Core and an Implementation Science specialist. Additional resources for clinical researchers are also available through collaboration with the Division of Health Outcomes and Knowledge Translation Research. Finally, extensive resources are available through our NIH-Funded Clinical Trials Networks: StrokeNet, NeuroNEXT and EPPIC-Net teams.
