Message From the Director

Today’s genetic counselors must integrate contemporary genetics in ethical health care, understanding the cultural, racial, and social components that contribute to patient decisions and outcomes with respect to genetic testing and research. Through distinctive clinical experiences and training within the Mount Sinai Health System and ample opportunities to serve diverse New York City communities, our students develop into compassionate leaders across genetic counseling disciplines.

Our Program was designed, and is continually updated, to provide a comprehensive foundation in cutting-edge genetics and genomics, its medical applications, and holistic patient care. By incorporating ethical practice and psychosocial assessment and support with a lens to social determinants of health and health literacy, our students grow into genetic counselors who are proficient in providing individualized genetic and genomic healthcare.

Our mission reflects that of the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai: "To train the next generation of leaders in scientific and clinical discovery, innovation, education, health policy, clinical care, and advocacy in a diverse, equitable, and inclusive learning environment."

We look forward to having you in this prestigious program and teaching you about the transformations happening in the exciting field of genomic science.
