Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology Fellowship at The Mount Sinai Hospital

  1. Residencies & Fellowship Programs

The Mount Sinai Hospital is a national leader in cardiology. Our robust inpatient volume includes more than 1,000 hospital discharges for heart failure per year, with more than 50 ventricular assist devices implanted, and 40 heart transplants performed annually. The fellowship in Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology at The Mount Sinai Hospital is expertly designed to train selected applicants in the diagnosis and therapeutic treatment of patients with advanced heart failure, mechanical circulatory support, and heart transplantation.

Fellows selected for the Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology Fellowship at The Mount Sinai Hospital gain education and experience in a range of areas, including:

  • Diagnosis of acute and chronic heart failure
  • Management of acute and chronic heart failure
  • Patient selection for mechanical circulatory support
  • Management of mechanical circulatory support
  • Heart transplantation

In addition to this rich clinical experience, the fellowship maintains a rigorous academic curriculum through journal clubs, didactics, research opportunities, and presentations at local and national meetings. Our faculty also hosts an annual Continuing Medical Education symposium, Mount Sinai Advanced Heart Disease, which covers broad topics such as pulmonary hypertension, donor selection, and allocation and surgical considerations in advanced therapies.

We view our fellows as integral members of our team who participate in the complex decision-making processes inherent to advanced heart failure. Our fellows graduate fully capable of practicing independently in all aspects of advanced heart failure and transplant cardiology.
