Electronic Lab Notebook

The Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai provides an Electronic Lab Notebook service for our researchers through an enterprise license agreement with LabArchives.
The service is secure, cloud-based software that replaces paper notebooks and improves both the design and documentation of experiments. It enables researchers to better track progress, streamline lab logistics, share data and results, and report findings.

All files, images, attachments, and other forms of data entered into the Notebooks are immediately backed up and protected in an encrypted format via the cloud network. The Electronic Lab Notebooks are also designed to meet the data management requirements of various funding agencies, including the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

All Icahn Mount Sinai researchers can use LabArchives Electronic Lab Notebook service.

To create an account or sign in, visit LabArchives.
Select Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai from the drop-down list.
Once you reach the sign-on page, fill in the requested credentials.

As an institutional policy, ownership of all research data belongs to the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Thus, all Notebooks created using an Icahn Mount Sinai network ID should be created by or transferred to a Principal Investigator (PI).

There are two options for Electronic Lab Notebook set-up:

Option 1: PIs can create Electronic Lab Notebooks as an owner and assign others as users (the preferred and best practice).
Option 2: Lab members can create Electronic Lab Notebooks and transfer ownership to the PI within 24-72 hours.
