The Human Metabolism and Physiology Lab at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai is one of the most advanced applied metabolism centers in the country. Our mission is to characterize individual variability in innate physiology and metabolic function in order to further our understanding of the pathophysiology of obesity and metabolic disease. Focusing on personalization, we offer gold-standard, precision measures rather than more common approaches that are generalized and imprecise. We are committed to serving individuals of different health statuses across the lifespan by translating scientific findings into actionable and sustainable health recommendations. Understanding the determinants of an individual’s metabolic physiology, we believe, is critical to advancing scientific research and improving clinical care.

Our Approach

We hold ourselves to the highest academic, professional, and medical standards and use precise measures and personalized protocols to improve patient health outcomes through a comprehensive understanding of individual metabolic function. We believe that when researchers work together, the resulting breakthroughs advance our efforts. As a result, we collaborate closely with other departments at Icahn Mount Sinai and in the greater New York City area, including:
